US authorities ban Samsung Galaxy Note 7 onboard

The US Transportation Department has comprehensively banned the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 from US aviation. European airlines have also responded already.

US authorities have comprehensively banned Samsung’s maligned Galaxy Note 7 smartphone from air travel in the United States. It is now generally prohibited to bring this model of device onto aircraft either on domestic flights within or on services into or out of the USA. The phones can also no longer be sent as air freight. Aviation authorities in Europe have not yet issued a full ban of the fire-prone smartphone, as it never actually went on sale in Europe. The only requirements here are that the device must be switched off during the flight, may not be charged and may not be kept in checked baggage. However, some airlines, such as airberlin and Lufthansa, have already responded with bans.
