Sixt winter special: winter tyres as standard!

Sixt rental car bookings between November and March include winter tyres at no extra cost.

In Austria all cars are legally obliged to be fitted with special winter tyres between 1 November and 15 April if weather conditions demand it (legally obliged). In the event of black ice, snow cover, slush, ice and slippery frosts, winter and all-season tyres bearing the designation M+S (mud and snow) are mandatory. This means that cars, vans and light trucks up to 3.5t must be fitted with either snow tyres or snow chains in wintery conditions. Whenever you reserve a rental car from Sixt in Austria in between November and March, tyres suitable for winter conditions are fitted as standard.

To Montreal with Austrian Airlines

From the end of April 2019, Austrian Airlines will be offering daily flights from Vienna to Montreal. Air Canada will take over the Toronto route.

From the end of April 2019, Austrian Airlines will be offering daily flights from Vienna to Montreal. Flights to the Canadian city will be offered all year round: daily in the 2019 summer flight schedule, and five times a week in the 2019/20 winter schedule. Air Canada, a member of Star Alliance and joint venture partner, will take over the Vienna Toronto service from Austrian Airlines. The Star Alliance partner will also launch its year-round service between Vienna and Toronto at the end of April 2019. The summer schedule will feature a daily service from Vienna to Toronto, dropping to five flights a week during the winter months. Going forward, Canada’s largest carrier will uphold the same number of flights and comparable arrival and departure times as previously offered by Austrian Airlines.

Fly direct to Paderborn with Adria Airways

Adria Airways is opening a new base at Paderborn-Lippstadt and launching direct flights to Vienna, Zurich and London.

Adria Airways is opening a new base at Paderborn-Lippstadt, with direct flights to Vienna, Zurich and London cued up for the 2018/19 winter schedule. Paderborn airport is located in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Its catchment area includes major cities such as Dortmund, Münster, Bielefeld and Kassel. Adria Airways will be offering direct flights between Vienna and Paderborn each week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. The Zurich-Paderborn service will operate twice daily from Monday to Friday in addition to a single flight on Sunday. Its London-Paderborn route will be available three times a week.

A twice-weekly service to Shenzhen – a free trade zone near Hong Kong – will be added to the schedules on 20 October 2018.

Hainan Airlines is coming to Austria for the first time: the Chinese carrier will add a twice-weekly service from Vienna to Shenzhen (Tue, Sat) to the schedules on 20 October 2018. This free trade zone is located on the southern tip of the Chinese mainland, a short distance from Hong Kong. Thanks to its status it is the fastest growing area in the world. Shenzhen is particularly popular as a destination for shopping tourism. The area includes several large theme parks, nature reserves, historic attractions and the largest golf course in China. Hainan Airlines’ flight network serves more than 100 destinations in Asia (around 50 of which are in China), Australia, Europe and North America.

KLM to start Las Vegas service in summer 2019

In June 2019 KLM is planning to introduce up to three flights a week from Amsterdam-Schiphol to the home of gambling.

KLM is expanding its flight network to include Las Vegas in the US state of Nevada. Its 2019 summer schedule will include up to three weekly flights from Amsterdam-Schipol to the home of gambling.

Starting on 6 June, the airline will fly non-stop to Las Vegas on Fridays and Sundays. A Tuesday service is set to follow suit on 2 July 2019. The route will be served by a 294-seat Boeing B787-9 Dreamliner – 30 seats in World Business Class, 45 in Economy Comfort and 219 in Economy Class. Las Vegas is set to become the 18th destination in North America that KLM offer direct flights to. The new route expands Air France KLM’s transatlantic network and will strengthen its joint venture with Delta Air Lines  It also gives passengers increased access to connecting flights to and from the west coast of the USA.

Korean Air adding new Vienna flights

Korean Air is increasing the frequency of flights between Vienna and Seoul from its new and modern base at Seoul-Incheon International’s Terminal 2.

Since summer, Korean Air fly the route six times a week (no flights on Tuesdays). The service departs Vienna at 18:40 and lands at Seoul-Incheon at 11:50 the next day. Leaving South Korea at 12:50, the return leg touches down in Vienna at 17:10. The additional flights open up greater flexibility and improved access to the global Korean Air network for people travelling to/from Vienna. Passengers can look forward to the highest standards of comfort and service on board.

New 2018 winter schedule from Austrian Airlines

Routes including Hong Kong and Colombo to be discontinued from the end of October 2018; frequencies to Chicago and New York will increase.

Austrian Airlines is reorganising its flight network in the 2018 winter schedule. A number of unprofitable flights will be cancelled with effect from the end of October 2018. These include Hong Kong, Havana and Colombo. Isfahan and Shiraz will be removed from the schedule in mid-September 2018. Miami will become a summer-only route from 2019. Passenger affected by the changes will be rebooked.

Where are frequencies increasing? Austrian Airlines’ new winter schedule will offer more flights to North America and China. Direct flights from Vienna to Chicago will depart daily, with six flights a week available to Newark. New York (JFK) will be offered up to six times a week, increasing frequency by up to three flights. The Toronto, Beijing and Shanghai routes will all feature one extra flight a week, taking the total to five. Cape Town will be added to the portfolio of destinations on 27 October.

Lufthansa launches new routes in winter 2018

6 new routes served by Munich and Frankfurt: Edinburgh, Tromsø, Agadir, Eilat, Thessaloniki and Triest.

From December Lufthansa will be adding to its Frankfurt schedules, with Tuesday and Saturday flights to Edinburgh in Scotland. Tromsø in Norway marks the arrival of another new destination from Munich. North of the Arctic circle, this route will be available on Thursdays and Saturdays from December – also from Frankfurt. Twice-weekly flights to Eilat (Israel) will feature on both the Frankfurt (from October ) and Munich (from November) schedules . Lufthansa is introducing its first ever service to Agadir (Morocco) with flights from Frankfurt on Mondays and Saturdays (from October) and a Sunday service from Munich (from November). Passengers departing Frankfurt airport will also have access to flights to Triest (Italy) and Thessaloniki (Greece) twice a week from October.
