Number of Austria routes transferred from Lufthansa to Austrian Airlines

Austrian Airlines has taken over the routes from Frankfurt to Graz, Salzburg and Innsbruck. Salzburg and Innsbruck have previously been served jointly with Lufthansa (on LH flight numbers), but now will be “purely” Austrian (OS) flights. Austrian is also considering taking over the routes between Frankfurt and Linz or Munich and Graz. The rotation between Vienna and Frankfurt or Munich will, however, continue to be served by Lufthansa.

Austrian Airlines to cancel Vienna-Tokyo from autumn

The existing daily long-haul flight between Vienna and Tokyo will no longer be provided from September this year (the last flight will be on 3 September). However, Austrian will also be adding new long-haul routes (such as to Hong Kong or Shanghai), meaning other routes need to be cancelled – as has already happened with those to Delhi or Dubai.

Emirates: Longer Online-Check-In

Emirates has extended its online check-in from 24 hours to 48 hours before departure. Passengers anywhere in the world can now check in on their computer or mobile device from 48 hours to 90 minutes before departure. The longer lead-time gives customers greater flexibility in choosing their seat, and more. With check-in open for a longer period of time, even smoother communication with customers in the event of unexpected flight delays or disruptions is now also possible, and this gives members of the Emirates Skywards frequent flyer programme improved upgrade options, and more.

Air Berlin to expand long-haul in winter

Frequencies from Berlin to Miami, New York and Chicago in the winter timetable are to be stepped up. Air Berlin also plans to fly more frequently to Los Angeles from Düsseldorf.
A summary of all the planned routes: Four times per week from Berlin to Miami, daily from Berlin to New York, five times per week from Berlin to Chicago, five times per week from Düsseldorf to Los Angeles. The holiday resorts of Cancun, Punta Cana and Varadero will also receive more flights in the winter timetable from Berlin or Düsseldorf.

China Airlines – more seats to Taipei

China Airlines is now serving the Vienna-Taipei route with a Boeing B747-400 (until 27 October 2016). This means an increase in capacity of 7 more seats in Business Class, and 90 more seats in Economy Class compared to the aircraft used until now (A340-300). From 2017, China Airlines will introduce its new flagship – the Airbus 350 – to the Vienna-Taipei route. The A350 is currently the most modern of all Airbus aircraft.

TAP Portugal to start flying to Boston and New York

Starting from this summer, TAP Portugal is going to start heading to Boston and New York from their Lisbon hub. The flights to Boston Logan International Airport will commence on 11 June, whilst the route to New York John F. Kennedy will start on 1 July 2016. This will provide perfect connection times for passengers travelling from Austria. Both routes will be served by the new Airbus A330, which offers added comfort in Economy Class thanks to its larger “living space” and in Business Class with its “lie-flat” seats.
