NIKI abolishes city flights, Lufthansa Group takes over

After the separation of Air Berlin & the new tourist orientation of NIKI, some city connections will be dropped starting in February and March. Abu Dhabi, Barcelona, Hamburg, Hanover, Madrid, Nice, Paris, Stockholm, Zurich, Rome and Milan will be affected by the NIKI cancellations (based on current situation). The Lufthansa subsidiaries Eurowings and AUA have already taken over several of the Air Berlin aircraft and Austrian will be taking over or increasing their current number of flights on the Hamburg, Paris, Stockholm and Zurich routes. In the future, the routes from Vienna, Salzburg and Graz to the Air Berlin hubs of Dusseldorf and Berlin will be served by Air Berlin itself.

Seat reservations and Business Class are also being abolished on some NIKI tourist connections.

Rebooking / Cancellation: Passengers who have booked city flight tickets will be rebooked. If this is not possible or time doesn’t allow, they can be canceled and the charges will be refunded, according to Air Berlin.
