Lufthansa’s Group new tariff concept – update

Following other airlines, the Lufthansa Group (Lufthansa, Swiss, Austrian, Brussels) ‘is as previously mentioned’ adopting a new tariff concept in Europe: service components are bundled together and offer under the marketing brands ‘Light’, ‘Classic’, ‘Flex’ and ‘Business’ multiple combination possibilities.  In addition to the normal limitations ‘rebooking, cancellation or seat reservation’, the first checked-in baggage now also represents an optional component of the tariff package. Additionally, supplementary services can be booked as usual for an extra fee. Actual prices are not published yet.  However, Swiss wants to make those new tariff packets available for booking in June. Lufthansa, Austrian and Brussels will follow booking flights for next autumn in July. As was the case with other airlines, paying for checked-in luggage led to one evident outcome and that is travellers with oversized hand luggage; which makes it no surprise that, according to the media, it is planned to reduce the volume of allowed hand luggage by 40 %.
