WESTbahn adding additional stations in Vienna

Starting in December, the WESTbahn train will not only be running every thirty minutes: it will also service the Hauptbahnhof (Central Station) and Praterstern stations in Vienna.

After the schedule change on December 10, 2017, the WESTbahn train will travel between Vienna and Salzburg every thirty minutes. There will be two lines for this, each named after the WESTbahn colors:

  • “WESTgreen” will depart from Vienna’s Westbahnhof station as before
  • “WESTblue” will start from Vienna’s Praterstern station

The new WESTblue line starts at Praterstern and runs west via the stations Wien Mitte, Rennweg, Quartier Belvedere, Wien Hauptbahnhof platforms 1-2 (underground) and Meidling. Both lines always stop in St. Pölten, Amstetten, Linz, Wels, Attnang-Puchheim and Salzburg.

Travel times will also be shortened, meaning that a journey from Vienna to St. Pölten will take 19 minutes, and from Vienna to Linz will take 1 hour 6 minutes. Additionally, starting in March 2018 there will be more early morning and late evening connections.
